Charles practiced several years of gymnastics while competing in Tae Kwon Do. He graduated from Kalaheo High in Kailua, HI, attained his A.A. from University of Hawaii and earned his teaching certificate in secondary education from UNLV. Charles started coaching gymnastics in 1981 and has coached more than 20 state championship teams from Levels 5 – 10. He has also coached a Level 10 National All-around champion and a Junior Elite National All-around champion. More than 15 of his athletes have earned full ride college scholarships to universities such as Stanford, BYU, ASU and Brown University. He is a member of the U.S. Elite Coaches Association and has coached over 20 gymnastics camps and workshops. Charles feels his biggest accomplishment is his God-given ability to love children unconditionally!
